Job Description

Location — Online

Principal Research Associate (Editas Medicine, Inc.; Cambridge, Massachusetts): The Principal Research Associate will apply expertise in molecular biology and cell culture to support a scientist in the development of a novel class of therapeutics using CRISPR-Cas9-based gene editing techniques across multiple disease areas; develop assays to both measure rates of editing and evaluate effects of these edits; develop systems for delivery of gene editing components in cell culture; regularly apply practical experience in molecular biology and mammalian cell culture; independently conceive, conduct, and critically analyze own innovative research with minimal supervision; and collaborate extensively in a fast-paced and team-oriented environment with dynamic, multi-disciplinary discovery teams.

Minimum requirements: Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Biotechnology plus 2 years of experience in the job offered or 2 years of post-degree molecular biology research experience. Alternatively, will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Biotechnology plus 5 years of post-degree molecular biology research experience in lieu of a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, or Biotechnology plus 2 years of post-degree molecular biology research experience.

Special Skills: Must have the ability to design and build vectors; 1 year of experience with the following molecular cloning techniques: standard restriction digest and ligation, Gibson, Quikchange, and Golden Gate Assembly; documented experience designing mammalian expression vectors; documented experience with the following cell culture systems: MEL, HEK293, K562 cells; documented experience cloning difficult plasmids such as lentiviral and AAV vectors or large vectors; documented experience executing quantitative PCR assays; 2 years of academic or industrial experience independently executing protocols as well as experience independently troubleshooting assays, including consulting the available literature for potential precedent; the ability to describe experiments, articulate goals, and present results to team members within the field and those working in other disciplines; and the ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects with different teams.
